You NEED these 3 things to monetize your podcast!

Creator Craft Newsletter

Hey Creator 😁

I like to think of this newsletter as a glossy magazine arriving on your doorstep. Something inviting, a bit thoughtful, and full of ideas you actually want to spend time with. Each edition is a small collection of guidance, surprises, and the feeling that someone has put real care into it.

But if we were keeping the analogy truly authentic, there would be a free gift taped to the cover. A cheap plastic toy in a crinkled bag that rips the moment you pull it off, taking half the picture with it. The picture, of course, would be a cat wearing a suit, recording into a Blue Yeti that isn't plugged in.

For the record, I do like magazines. But sometimes, an email is easier. And, to be frank, my artistic vision maybe needs a little work.

Anyway...

Mic Drop Fact: Tape hiss has a side benefit.

That subtle background hiss in analog recordings isn’t just noise; it can actually psychoacoustically mask other low-level tape artifacts. Combined with analog saturation, this helps give tape recordings the smooth, warm sound people associate with the analog era.

💸 12 Ways to Start Monetizing Your Show

We've cited this stat a few times now, but 85% of indie podcasters aren't earning money from their show, and nearly 40% say monetizing is one of their biggest challenges.

Last week, we looked at fan funding. Now, let's take a deep dive into the full range of ways you can support your show, cover your costs, and maybe even earn enough to hire help further down the line.

Monetizing ANY content relies on three core elements:

  • Audience: the people you reach.

  • Authority: the knowledge you can share.

  • Assets: the things you create that others want to use.

Using the AAA framework, we have 12 tried and tested ways for you to set up some income streams. Some of them you can even get cracking with TODAY...

🎙️ 100 Days of YouTube, 100 Podcast Listeners, and Why Both Matter

Colin sits down with Craig Hewitt, founder of Castos, to discuss the shifting landscape of content creation. Fresh off completing a 100 Days of YouTube challenge, Craig shares why he chose video over podcasting during that time, what he learned about platform growth, and the powerful truths about podcast numbers versus engagement (where podcasting still shines!)

They explore the convergence of audio, video, and email platforms, the challenges of monetization in podcasting, how AI is reshaping content workflows (without replacing creators), and why a few hundred engaged podcast listeners might be more valuable than 100,000 YouTube views.
